FAQ for Prescription Online Ordering

Why are not all medications on my repeat list?

When medications are first started they may not be on your repeat list if the dose may change soon or if the drug requires some initial monitoring. Also medications which are not ordered frequently may not be on the repeat list.

If you believe a certain medication should be on the repeat list, then please type this request in the medication request box below the medication list and the doctor will review this and issue if appropriate.

I have repeat medication, but how do I order an acute (non-regular) prescription?

Please send the request using the Request Medication Box under your repeat list. This will be processed by the prescription admin staff who will then send the request to the suitable doctor. Please state full medication details and why you are requesting this medication.

The medication should be ready within 48 hours. You can ring or come down to the surgery to see if this has been processed. If the medication has be refused due to clinical grounds you will be asked to make an appointment or clarify the request for the medication.

What does it mean by status and remaining medication?

We aim to review all medication on an annual basis. Some medications require closer monitoring with blood test, blood pressure measurement or a review with the doctor/nurse throughout the year. In these cases the medication will only be authorised and you will only be able to request your medication up until the next monitoring is required. if this is the case please contact the surgery and someone will be able to help you with what is required.

I do not have any repeat medication but would like to request a  prescrition for something I have had before.

Unfortunately SystmOne does not allow you to go to the prescription screen if you do not have any repeat medication.

However in this case you may use the ‘Ask Question’ function. Please send a request using this and make this as detailed as possible to help the clinician make a decision. Unfortunately due to presciption demands we cannot reply to individual patients using this function.

The medication should be ready within 48 hours. You can ring or come down to the surgery to see if this has been processed. If the medication has be refused due to clinical grounds you will be asked to make and appointment or clarify the request for the mediation.

I have been started on a medication from the hospital but I cannot see this in my repeat list.

When medications are first started they may not be on your repeat list if the dose may change soon or if the drug requires some initial monitoring. Please send a free text request for this medication if you do not see this on your repeat list and this can be added if appropriate, to your repeat list as your request.

I did not receive a reply to my question using the Ask Question function.

If this is a prescription request then this will be processed in the usual manner and if appropriate, will be available in 48 hours. We currently do not have the ability to email you back. We would endeavour to contact you by phone if we needed to. If you do not hear anything within 48 hours then please ring the surgery or call in to find out if your query has been dealt with.

I have been asked to change my password when I logon.

The password and username is generated by SystmOnline which is the computer system that is used. You may be asked to change the password for security reasons and to something that you can remember.

I know you have stopped taking Telephone Orders for prescriptions, but what if I need to discuss something regarding my prescription?

We have only stopped telephone orders due to safety reasons. If you have any queries regarding your medication repeat list, the status of a request or a refused prescription request then you may call the surgery to discuss this with an admin team member who may be able to offer you further advice and information.

What is repeat dispensing?

This is another way of ordering and collection your prescription. If your medication is likely to be stable and not change for 6-12 months then the doctor can issue your prescription for the next 6-12 months. This will be kept at a pharmacy of your choice and can be picked up directly from the pharmacy. There is no need to order monthly from the surgery as the prescription has been issued already. Once you have collected all your prescriptions you will probably be due your next monitoring/review after which a further 6-12 monthly prescription can be issued. Please discuss this with your clinician at you next medication review.

How do I know when my review is due?

We aim to do these annually, in your birthday month for patients on repeat medication. Some medications require interim reviews usually at 6 months, but sometimes more frequently. This should be explained to you when you start the medication and again at each review. The number of issues remaining (which you see as ‘remaining medication’) should  be in line with the review schedule.
